Pixelmania 2025

2025-05-05

Pixelmania 2025 Artworks

Created as part of Artindi’s Pixelmania challenge, for 2025. The goal was to make one artwork per day, given the following themes and optional constraints.

Ask for permission before uploading or using. See the Contact section of the home page.

1. Sword

Inigo Montoya holding his sword, praying. A scene from the movie The Princess Bride, which is based on the book of the same name. With the constraint ‘include the sky in your image’

2. At Death’s Door

A scene from the game Sea of Stars. One of the party’s members - Garl - is frozen in time, in a life-threatening situation.

3. Too Late

Ending scene of the movie WarGames. The silouhettes I did last, and had a hard time making enough details for them, but since they’re in the shadow, the use of contours and basic shading (and lack of details) is more forgiveable. I started with line art, and two colours of shading for most of the silouhettes, and then tweaked the lines to be thicker/thinner where it felt right. I’m really surprised with how well they look!

4. Contraption

A phrase I heard way too often when playing Nox. Using the ‘Paper Pixels’ palette turned out to be way harder than I thought. With all my previous artworks, I colour picked a lot to get a specific colour I needed. With the restriction of a palette, it was no longer so simple. I also didn’t have time to include the turning gears, which are a common part of door locking mechanisms in the game. Oh, well…

5. Lovecraftian

A creative mis-interpretation of the theme.

6. Long Lost

With the optional constraint of using a square, triangle or circle as the main subject.

7. Poster (mis-read as ‘Portrait’)

Based on Chrono Trigger. The optional constraint was to hide items in the image like an ‘I Spy’ book. Quite a few of the items rely on Chrono Trigger knowledge, so I advise you to play through a bit of the game first. I couldn’t decide which dress to pick for Marle, so I chose to draw both versions (the in-game sprites show a light blue dress, while the official art has a white/red dress. Because of this, the dress varies a lot in fan-art. I’ve seen light-blue dresses, white dresses with a red stripe, and even a light-blue dress with a red stripe).

Can you find:

7. Poster

From George Orwell’s book ‘1984’, a dystopian novel, which you can read here.

CodenameWaddles created the ‘War is Peace’ poster, and klick404 the ‘Freedom is Slavery’. I finished the trio by drawing ‘Ignorance is Strength’.

8. These things don’t mix

Water and Acid. With the constraint of using only two colours.

9. That was funny

From the game ‘Undertale

10. Oh.. It’s Adorable

A fluffy dress!

From the TV series firefly

11. Underneath

From the game ‘Frogatto & Friends’. The constraint was to use only shades of yellow, red and blue.

12. Overload

One of the first cutscenes of Chrono Trigger.

13. Escape

Based on Disney’s cartoon 1992 ‘Aladdin’. More specifically the DOS game of the same name in which the level is called ‘Escape’.

This drawing was then edited to fulfill the day’s constraint: ‘Have a bright colour dominating the top half of the screen’

14. Drink

Niko drinking… coffee?! No, just brown tea. From OneShot.

15. Production

Someone drawing lots of annoying dogs. (From undertale)

16. It’s just a copy

Two Sophies, or maybe just one?…

From the Studio Ghibli film “Howl’s Moving Castle” 「ハウルの(うご)(しろ)

17. Ultimate

Crono performing ‘Luminaire’, with the constraint of using only silhouettes. From Chrono Trigger

18. Uncanny

Completed with the constraint of using a specific palette.

Walking through a mirror. From Chrono Cross

19. Song

Completed with the constraint ‘Get someone to draw you a few lines’. From King’s Quest VI

20. Upgrade

A scene from Celeste

21. But… why?

windows restarting as soon as it reaches 30% of installing updates

22. Heat

A Ghast with a troll face shooting a fireball. (From minecraft). A re-draw of Akhiros’ discord profile picture. Credit and thanks goes to Akhiros from the frogatto discord, for re-drawing the troll face at such a small resolution

23. Fragile

🎵He’s got a jar of dirt!🎵 (Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Man’s Chest)

24. Other World

Sailing around. (Chrono Cross)

25. Inverted

Thoroughly look at potions and their contents before drinking them. (Prince of Persia)

26. That’s sad

From OneShot. For people who have completed the game, a spoiler-full version is available here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

27. The Cure

Jack Sparrow holding the map to Fountain of Youth. (Pirates of the Caribbean IV: On Stranger Tides)

28. Cyber

deltarune

29. The Perfect Place

from Chrono Cross

30. Don’t Look Back

From the Studio Ghibli film “Spirited Away” 「(せん)千尋(ちひろ)神隠(かみかく)し」

31. BOOM!

Opening of Crocodile Dundee II

With the palette constraint applied, the scene is a bit less clear, but still pretty good.

31. BOOM! - Another one

1999 A.D. Apocalypse (from Chrono Trigger). An animated making-of gif is available here
